From January 2026 SBB is renewing the Rhine bridge between Schaffhausen and Feuerthalen on the Schaffhausen–Etzwilen line, which is more than 130 years old, from the ground up; the listed steel structure of 1895 has to be fully enclosed for the work. The project costs about CHF 15 million, funded through SBB's performance agreement with the federal government, and is due to be finished by August 2027. A closure of the bridge to rail traffic was planned from 18 May to 7 August 2026, during which replacement buses were to run the regional service between Schaffhausen and Feuerthalen; some work is done at night with the track closed. Construction starts in January 2026; the date is a placeholder: only the month of August 2027 is given. (LOK Report, 7 Jan 2026)
