Spital Oberengadin in Samedan GR (Graubünden's second-largest hospital after the Kantonsspital Chur) is in an existential crisis. SGO faces insolvency at the end of March 2026. A planned rescue takeover by the new public-law institution Sanadura would involve 50 dismissals. The alternative: complete closure and liquidation with job losses for all 350 employees and a collapse of healthcare provision in the region. At least 7 of the 11 participating Upper Engadine municipalities must approve by March (votes February/March 2026). Cross-reference: same case as the layoffs entry of the same day (rescue plan with 50 redundancies; full closure was the alternative scenario); the figure is carried there and set to null here to avoid double counting. Update (05.02.2026): The full closure has been averted: the member municipalities backed the rescue plan with the new public-law body Sanadura in early February 2026, and the hospital in Samedan is to continue operating from 1 April 2026 under Spital Oberengadin AG (KSGR group) (Medinside, 05.02.2026).
