Investment
CHF 13 million (cost forecast)
Status

In Aesch SBB is planning a turnback track with signalling optimisation towards Münchenstein that is to enable an all-day quarter-hourly service between Basel and Aesch from the end of 2028; the two Basel cantons, the canton of Solothurn and SBB signed a letter of intent to this effect in June 2026. The project is expected to cost CHF 13 million, is in the plan approval procedure and is due to start construction in early 2028; objections, Rail Infrastructure Fund resources and decisions on Verkehr ’45 could affect the schedule. The denser service is foreseen only until the start of the Basel SBB West expansion project, planned for 2034. The date is a placeholder: the article names only December 2028; announced on 25 Jun 2026. (LOK Report, 25 Jun 2026)
