Curonian Nord is the Baltic states' first offshore wind farm, planned roughly 37-50 km off the Lithuanian coast near Klaipėda/Palanga, with up to 55 turbines and 700 MW of installed capacity (approx. 3 TWh/year, about a quarter of Lithuania's electricity demand). State-owned Ignitis Renewables became sole developer in October 2025 after buying out partner Ocean Winds' 49% stake; the environmental impact assessment was approved in July 2026, with a construction permit expected in 2027. Originally targeted for 2030, Lithuania's energy minister has said the project is currently not commercially viable without state support, so commissioning could slip further.
