SFS Group to close its Flawil plant, cutting 75 of 110 jobs

SFS is closing its plant in Flawil due to weak demand in the European automotive industry; 75 of 110 jobs are affected, with 35 jobs planned to be relocated to Heerbrugg. The closure is staggered between April 2026 and mid-2027. Update (18.11.2025): after the consultation process the closure is final; the six proposals put forward by staff offered no viable alternative. The 75 dismissals will be staggered from April 2026 to mid-2027 and 35 cold-forming jobs will move to Heerbrugg; SFS left the exact closure date open (SRF, 18.11.2025). Update (18.11.2025): according to the Rheintaler, SFS confirmed after the consultation the timeframe it had set out in October: operations in Flawil will cease by the end of 2027 (Rheintaler, 18.11.2025). Update (06.10.2026): According to its 2026 half-year report, SFS sold its European deep-drawing business to Adval Tech effective 07.07.2026; presses and customer orders will be transferred gradually over the coming year, the Flawil site will close by the end of 2027 and cold forming moves to Heerbrugg (SFS Group, half-year report 2026).
