Damen Shipyards Mangalia lays off all 1,011 employees

The insolvent company announced on 6 May 2026 that it will dismiss all 1,011 employees by June/July after its restructuring plan was rejected and liquidation followed. Severance ranges from two to nine average gross salaries depending on length of service. With the award to Rheinmetall and MSC on 19 October 2026 the yard has a buyer (Eurofound ERM; Capital.ro, 13 May 2026). Update (29 July 2026): According to the Navalistul union, all of the shipyard's more than 1,000 employees have been dismissed with severance pay. Only about 105 people remain on site to guard and maintain the equipment.
