Bane NOR is building about 30 km of new double track on the Dovre Line between Kleverud and Åkersvika (Stange municipality, Innlandet), including the 3.1 km Hestnes tunnel and the over 1 km Tangenvika bridge, which would become Norway's longest railway bridge; the goal is shorter travel times and more departures between Hamar and Oslo. Work south of Ottestad, including the new Stange station, is proceeding on schedule, while all work north of Ottestad is on hold pending a solution for crossing the Åkersvika bay near Hamar. Bane NOR's current forecast therefore pushes the opening from the originally planned 2027 to a projected 2032. Update (19 Jan 2026): Bane NOR announced in mid-January 2026 that the opening of the double track to Hamar slips from 2027 to 2032 because the risks of building across the Åkersvika nature reserve have grown; a new crossing solution is being planned, and all work north of Ottestad stays on hold until then. The new Stange station is still due to open in 2027 with two tracks (the third follows later), and foundation work towards Ottestad starts in 2026. The Hamar station project is also delayed: the agreement with the Railway Directorate must be renegotiated and a formal investment decision taken. The delay allows commissioning with ERTMS instead of a temporary signalling system; it is unclear whether the radioactive peat can be deposited in Norway, and the change must be dealt with by parliament.
