Infranord to rebuild Luleå C station by 2030 in SEK 450m contract

Announced on 4 June 2026: Trafikverket has awarded Infranord the rebuild of Luleå C station (contract value about SEK 450 million, seven construction sections of which three are options, roughly 17,000 track metres, 46 switches). Works start in 2027 and end in 2030: the passenger-car storage yard moves to Svartön nedre and opens in autumn 2028, the passenger station gets a new interlocking and new platforms with a grade-separated link in 2028–2030, and the Malmbangården freight yard gets new entry and exit tracks. The reason is expected traffic growth: by 2045, 82 passenger trains a day (26 today) and 43 freight trains (20 today) are forecast to pass through.
