Charleroi completes light-metro Line M5 to Les Viviers

The new Line M5 extends the Charleroi Light Metro network from Waterloo via Pensée and Neuville to Les Viviers (about 5.5 km, 17 stations), completing the Châtelet branch that was begun in the 1980s and left unfinished for decades. The building permit for the track, eight stations and a service building was granted in January 2023, and construction started in November 2024. Opening is planned for 2027 and is meant to connect the new hospital near Les Viviers; the project is funded with EUR 60 million from the Walloon Recovery Plan.
