Event
On 23 Oct 2026 the European Commission opens a formal antitrust investigation into Omya over a possible abuse of dominance in calcium carbonates for the paper industry

Exclusive purchasing obligations and exclusivity rebates of the largest calcium carbonate supplier in the EEA towards paper makers are under review; outcome open, no legal deadline

The Commission is examining whether Swiss-based Omya obliged paper-industry customers to buy all or most of their calcium carbonates from it and whether exclusivity rebates squeezed out rivals. Opening the case does not prejudge the outcome (European Commission, 23 Oct 2026).
