CER Cargo Group to buy Austrian rail freight firm Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo

Wiener Stadtwerke is selling Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC), a rail operator in intermodal and conventional freight, to CER Cargo Group, which is based in Budapest and emerged as best bidder from an open tender launched in May 2025. The report gives no purchase price; the change of ownership is due to close by the end of 2025. CER Cargo, which has subsidiaries in several southern, eastern and central European countries, wants to use WLC to expand its interoperable services in Austria and Germany.
