Lead-acid battery maker Elhim-Iskra is suspending production in Pazardzhik from 23 Mar 2026 and, after a period of temporary inactivity, plans to dismiss about 200 employees, nearly the entire workforce. The company cites falling industrial production in its export markets Italy and Germany, competition from Turkey, China and India, and high energy and labour costs; revenue was about €15.4m last year and the company was loss-making (Eurofound European Restructuring Monitor, March 2026).
