Autostrade per l'Italia has awarded Webuild (90%) and its subsidiary SELI Overseas (10%) the EUR 803 million contract for Lot B of the Genoa undersea road tunnel — the most technically demanding stretch, running beneath the port basin and beneath built-up parts of the city. The overall route is about 4.2 km long, of which 3.4 km is in tunnel, built as two separate parallel tubes, one per direction of travel. The tunnel is intended to separate urban traffic from port and logistics traffic, reducing congestion, emissions and noise in the city. Contract announced on 30.07.2026. Completion: when works began, the port authority said the tunnel should open to traffic by August 2029 (Ports of Genoa, 04.03.2024) — a 2024 planning target, as Webuild's announcement gives no date; date set to the end of that month.
