To enable double-track operation between Bergen and Arna, a second roughly 7,800-metre tunnel bore through Mount Ulriken was built starting in 2013 — Norway's first railway tunnel driven with a full-face tunnel boring machine. The new bore opened for traffic on 13 December 2020 while the original 1964-built 7,670-metre tunnel was refurbished; total cost of the double-track project was about NOK 4.6 billion. According to Wikipedia, the overall expansion was completed in May 2024, giving the line continuous double track across two separate single-track tunnel bores.
