On 14 February 2026, the battery-powered 'Stadler' train (FLIRT battery train) was publicly presented for the first time at Kaunas station. The train was manufactured at the Stadler plant in Poland (Swiss manufacturer). The train is currently in test operation; regular passenger service is to begin in the second half of 2026. Kristina Meidė (Managing Director of LTG Link): 'Battery-powered trains in Lithuania are a clear step towards more modern and sustainable travel.' Goal: to enable comfortable travel also in regions outside the major cities. Presented on 14 Feb 2026. The date is a placeholder: passenger service is due to start in the second half of 2026, so the end of the half-year is used. Update (25 Oct 2026): Operator LTG Link started passenger service with the new Stadler Flirt trains on 22 Oct 2026, with the first run from Vilnius to Kaunas; 15 trains are on order. At first they serve Vilnius-Kaunas and temporarily Vilnius-Trakai until the Vilnius-Klaipėda line is electrified (LRT English, 22 Oct 2026).
