Lucerne builds new children's hospital with women's clinic for CHF 260m

New building of the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (Luks): a modern children's hospital with a new women's clinic. Planned opening autumn 2026. An important infrastructure project for the hospital group. Previous children's hospital: 55 years old, designed for 3,000 patients, currently 30,000 patients/year. New building: obstetrics, neonatology, women's clinic on one floor (perinatal centre). Modern operating theatres for complex tumours. Process optimisation through a 6-month simulation with staff and patients before planning. CEO Florian Aschbrenner describes it as one of the most important construction projects in the hospital group's history. Announced on 18 Jan 2026. Update (8 Oct 2026): according to the LUKS magazine of June 2026, Lucerne Cantonal Hospital will open the new Central Switzerland children's hospital together with the new women's clinic in autumn 2026; the hospital gives no exact day — the date of 30 Nov 2026 is a placeholder for the end of autumn (LUKS magazine, June 2026).
