Thurbo and SBB opened the expanded and modernised service facility in Weinfelden on 1 November 2025; Thurbo invested CHF 18.4 million in it, and SBB maintains the regional operator's trains there under contract. The timber-built hall has grown by about 30 m to just over 100 m in length and carries a photovoltaic system with 866 modules that generates almost 400 MWh of electricity a year. All 329 new Flirt Evo trains for SBB, RegionAlps and Thurbo are to be commissioned in Weinfelden (procurement volume about CHF 2 billion); the first Thurbo trains are due to enter service during 2026 and replace the GTW fleet, which will be retired by the mid-2030s. Up to 30 SBB specialists will work at the site in future. (LOK Report, 31 Oct 2025)
