Norwegian fertiliser group Yara brought Europe's largest industrial carbon-capture facility online in Sluiskil (Zeeland) on 7 September 2026. It can capture up to 800,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from ammonia production; the liquefied gas is shipped to the Norwegian Øygarden terminal and permanently stored about 2,600 m under the seabed as part of the Northern Lights project — the first cross-border CCS chain of this kind in commercial operation. Around 12 million tonnes of CO2 are to be stored over 15 years. Investment volume EUR 194 million, including a EUR 30 million Dutch government grant (VRT, 7 September 2026).
