Norway's Ringerike Line stays fully planned but unfunded
- Location
- Hønefoss–Sandvika, Ringerike region, Norway · 🇳🇴 Norway
- Project
- Ringerike Line
- Investment
- approx. NOK 26 billion (2018 estimate, incl. parallel road); earlier 2007 estimate: NOK 7 billion, of which NOK 4 billion for the rail line – not finalized
- Status
- In planning (fully planned but unfunded, no construction start; postponed in 2022)
The roughly 40 km new-build line would connect Hønefoss and Sandvika, serving as an extension/shortcut of the Bergen Line. The project is fully planned but lacks funding and a firm construction start date; it was postponed in 2022 and the Norwegian government has not committed to a timeline. If construction begins within the next few years (10-12 year build time), opening is estimated for the late 2030s to early 2040s at the earliest.
