Roche breaks ground on CHF 790m active-ingredient plant in Basel

On 21 September 2026 Roche laid the foundation stone for the "Synthetic Molecules Facility" (Building 51) in Basel: a seven-storey production building for synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredients with highly automated, AI-supported processes; together with the modernisation of the neighbouring Building 50, the group is investing around CHF 790m, with completion planned for 2030. Around 200 employees are to work there; according to reports these are existing production jobs secured for the long term rather than new positions (swissinfo/Keystone-SDA, 21 Sep 2026; SRF).
