Oberried and Brienz sign merger letter of intent

Letter of intent signed on 25 November 2025. Oberried (475 inhabitants) faces compulsory administration due to a lack of municipal councillors from January. Brienz has 3,265 inhabitants. Municipal assemblies on 3 and 4 December for public information. Earliest merger date: 1 January 2029. Both municipalities already cooperate in various areas. Update (11 Sep 2026): A Plattform J report refers to "ongoing merger clarifications of the municipalities of Brienz, Oberried and Schwanden", making Schwanden bei Brienz a third party to the talks. The report names no merger contract, vote date or target date (Plattform J, 11 Sep 2026).
