On 1 December 2025 SBB began rebuilding Solothurn West station: higher and longer platforms, a wider pedestrian underpass and step-free access in line with the Disability Discrimination Act; costs are CHF 28.4 million plus CHF 4.5 million for preparatory work on the public car park, with completion planned by the end of 2027. From January 2026 it will also replace the superstructure of the railway bridge on the Solothurn–Biel line with a composite steel-concrete bridge (about CHF 30 million, completion in 2028; winning design Reprise from a project competition); both projects are funded through SBB's performance agreement with the federal government, and the city of Solothurn also contributes to the station rebuild. Full closures, night closures and temporary closures of Römerstrasse have been announced. Construction began on 1 December 2025 (station) and starts in January 2026 (bridge); the date is a placeholder: only the year 2028 is given for the bridge, while the station rebuild is due to finish by the end of 2027.
