Between Tenero and Locarno, a 530-metre crossing loop with double track and two switches was built on the previously single-track SBB line Cadenazzo–Locarno, enabling more train services (TILO lines S20/RE80). At the same time the new Minusio stop was created. Total cost of roughly CHF 24.7 million was split between the federal government (double track, CHF 18.2m) and the canton of Ticino, the municipality of Minusio, and federal co-funding (station, CHF 6.5m).
