On 17 July 2026 Germany's Federal Cartel Office cleared RWE's acquisition of around 47% of M31 Beteiligungsgesellschaft; RWE's effective stake in transmission system operator Amprion thus rises from about 20% to about 55%. The underlying transaction, announced on 22 June 2026 (purchase price around €3.6bn according to media reports), does not give RWE sole control due to a consortium agreement; the cartel office coordinated unbundling questions with the Federal Network Agency.
