The Domaine des Grottes de Han, among the best-known show caves in Europe, is ending its roughly hundred-year-old tram service because it no longer pays its way. The vehicles belong to the Walloon transport operator TEC, which is withdrawing from this business; according to managing director François Ledent, taking them over would have required a change in the legal framework and cost about EUR 5 million, which seemed too much given falling visitor use. The closure leads to five dismissals, and two more employees lost their jobs in the Village Cocoon glamping offer, while the new climbing park created two permanent posts. (LOK Report, 16 Jan 2026) Update (23 Jan 2026): operator TEC no longer runs the line, and the five staff who operated the tram have since been dismissed. A petition calls for the tram to be kept for its heritage value (VRT NWS, 23 Jan 2026).
