Stockholm resumes Tvärbanan extension to Helenelund at SEK 9.3bn

Announced on 6 March 2026: on 17 February 2026 the Stockholm regional council again approved implementation of the Tvärbanan extension to Helenelund, which has stood still since summer 2024 after the contract with the original general contractor was terminated over serious defects. The total budget is now about SEK 9.3 billion (around EUR 870 million), with investment up by SEK 1,106 million and operating costs by SEK 124 million on the 2024 decision, and the state and municipalities are expected to contribute around SEK 2.4 billion. The construction contracts are expected to be tendered in two rounds, first for Ursvik–Helenelund (from March 2026) and then for Bromma–Ursvik (from autumn 2026); service to Ursviks torg is expected in the fourth quarter of 2028 and to Helenelund at the end of 2029.
