Meta reopens WhatsApp to rival AI after EU order

Precedent for AI market access: rivals such as ChatGPT regain free access to the WhatsApp Business API.

Since 13 July 2026 ChatGPT is available again on WhatsApp for about 500 million EEA users. Meta thereby complies with the European Commission's interim measures order of 9 June 2026 under Article 102 TFEU — only the second such order under Regulation 1/2003; non-compliance risked fines of up to 10% of annual turnover.
