On 28 July 2026 Rijkswaterstaat launched the procurement for replacing the 1924 and 1939 siphons under the Wessem–Nederweert canal at Lock 15; the structures are heavily corroded and well past their technical service life. A new bypass structure is to raise water supply towards the Noordervaart and the Peel region to 6 m³/s. The indicative budget is €16.5m, applications close on 3 September 2026 and provisional award is scheduled for February 2027. Work must proceed without interrupting water supply or navigation and next to protected monuments, archaeological sites and habitats of protected species.
