The Swedish government adopts the national transport infrastructure plan for 2026–2037, covering rail, road, shipping and aviation, with a total volume of SEK 1,171 billion

The frame is more than SEK 200 billion higher than in the previous plan; priorities are clearing the maintenance backlog, the Ostkustbanan (SEK 11 billion) and the Malmbanan (including 32.5-tonne axle load and ERTMS), plus SEK 4.1 billion for new icebreakers. The government goes beyond Trafikverket's draft (for example Kalixfors and Kaisepakte, about SEK 400 million together) but cuts the Norrbotnia line Skellefteå–Luleå by SEK 150 million to a single-track railway.

The Swedish government has adopted the national transport infrastructure plan for 2026–2037, which covers rail, road, shipping and aviation with a total of SEK 1,171 billion (about EUR 108 billion). Trafikverket had submitted its draft on 30 September 2025 (a frame more than SEK 200 billion higher than in the previous plan; the rail maintenance backlog of about SEK 90 billion is to be cleared by 2050 and ERTMS rolled out by 2042). The government sets its own priorities: SEK 11 billion is earmarked for the Ostkustbanan, including SEK 4 billion for Kubikenborg–Dingersjö near Sundsvall and SEK 3 billion for double-tracking Gävle–Kringlan; on the Malmbanan, Kalixfors and Kaisepakte are added (about SEK 400 million together), capacity between Boden and Gällivare is to rise by about 30%, and SEK 4.1 billion goes to new icebreakers.
