The first 7 km section of the Tinnosbanen from Notodden to Lisleherad returned to service with a ceremony on 21 May 2026; a train thus ran on this line for the first time since 2009. Bane NOR laid about 11,200 new sleepers for this, financed by state grants of NOK 45 million (EUR 4.2 million). The line, closed in 1991, is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site and belonged to the Rjukanbanen system, over which Norsk Hydro shipped fertiliser to Skien until 1991; the stated wish is museum operation on all lines, including the ferry across Lake Tinnsjø.
