The 107.4 km newly built Novi Sad–Subotica section opened on 8 October 2025, completing—together with the Belgrade–Novi Sad section operating since March 2022—the 181.6 km Belgrade–Subotica high-speed corridor as the Serbian part of the Budapest–Belgrade railway. With a maximum speed of 200 km/h, the full route takes about 1 hour 19 minutes; the new section was built by Chinese state-owned CCCC over roughly 33 months. The opening was delayed in part by a railway station canopy collapse in Novi Sad and the ensuing nationwide protests.
