The regular election would not have been due until December 2027; Vučić resigned on 27 Sep 2026, Ana Brnabić is acting president, and the presidential election must take place by the end of 2026

The trigger is the protest movement since the collapse of the Novi Sad station canopy on 1 Nov 2024, which killed 16; the main challenger to the SNS list is a student list. The result was not yet available at the time of writing (Balkan Insight, 9 Sep 2026; European Western Balkans, 28 Sep 2026).
