Since October 2025 ÖBB has been clearing the central island between Innsbruck's main and freight stations (11,100 m² of buildings, 2,000 m² of loading ramps, 700 track metres) through the end of 2026; new tracks, wider platforms and an extra two-edge platform follow. The drivers are the Brenner Base Tunnel and track assets at the end of their life, and ÖBB, the Tyrol state and the city also plan a pedestrian and cycle underpass between Heiliggeiststrasse and Anzengruberstrasse. Main works are due to finish in the mid-2030s. The date is a placeholder: only a rough mid-decade timing is given, set here to the end of 2035. Announced on 23 Oct 2025 (LOK Report, 23 Oct 2025).
