Replacement build for the SBB Ritom hydropower plant near Quinto in Ticino, originally commissioned in 1917: two 60 MW turbines (one with a 16.7 Hz generator for rail power, one with a 50 Hz generator feeding the cantonal grid), a 60 MW pump, and a 100,000 m3 balancing reservoir. The project is carried out by Ritom SA (SBB 75%, Canton Ticino/AET 25%), founded following a 2010 framework agreement; construction has been underway since 2018 with commissioning planned for 2027.
