- EU Parliament approves negotiating mandate on the digital euro, first trilogue started on 13 July
The plenary approved the negotiating mandate by 416 votes to 169 (22 abstentions), after right-wing groups had forced a plenary vote; the first trilogue with the Council and Commission started on 13 July 2026. The goal is an agreement by the end of 2026; the ECB is aiming for introduction on 1 January 2029.
