The new tram Line 12 began operation on 1 September 2025, linking the districts of Josefstadt, Alsergrund, Brigittenau and Leopoldstadt over a 7.2 km total route (including a 2.2 km newly built section in the 2nd district with 5 new stops) between U6 Josefstädter Straße and the new terminus Hillerstraße in the Nordbahnviertel. Construction started in summer 2024 with total investment of about EUR 60 million; the line runs every 7.5-8 minutes at peak times, serving roughly 250,000 residents and an expected 16,000 daily passengers.
