Správa železnic is tendering the upgrade and electrification of the 52 km Veselí nad Lužnicí–České Velenice line under its new procurement approach in three separate parts: infrastructure (track, bridges, platforms), power supply (overhead line, substations) and communications and safety systems including ETCS. This is meant to let more bidders take part without forming large consortia and to bring the total price down; the estimated contract value is CZK 7.99 billion (EUR 330 million), and the European Investment Bank supports the project with a loan. Construction is to run from January 2027 to autumn 2029: all stations and halts will be renovated and given step-free platforms, the line will become faster, some level crossings will disappear, and an overpass will be built on road I/24 near Suchdol nad Lužnicí. The date is a placeholder: the article names only autumn 2029, so the end of the autumn is used; tender announced on 7 Jul 2026 (LOK Report, 7 Jul 2026).
