SBB to build S-Bahn service facility in Schaffhausen by 2032

SBB is building a new service facility next to the Schaffhausen freight yard for the maintenance and stabling of the new Zurich S-Bahn trains, creating about 60 jobs. The hall is to measure roughly 220 by 40 metres and 10 metres in height, with three maintenance tracks of 150 metres each; the site was chosen after a feasibility study with the city and canton that has been running since February 2025, design work starts in 2026 and the plan approval procedure is expected to begin in about two years.
