Amazon is cutting up to 30,000 corporate jobs (around 10% of the corporate workforce out of a total of 1.58 mn employees). The wave of layoffs could begin as early as next week. Affected areas include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Prime Video, Retail and the HR area 'People Experience and Technology'. This would be the largest job cut in Amazon's corporate history (for comparison: in 2022 Amazon parted with around 27,000 employees). Employees affected in the previous round of layoffs remain on the payroll for a further 90 days and can reapply internally or reorient externally. Update (28 January 2026): Amazon carried out a second round affecting about 16,000 roles; together with the 14,000 cut in October that comes to about 30,000. (KTVU, 28 January 2026)
