Luxembourg builds new railway line between Howald and Bettembourg

The roughly 7 km grade-separated, double-track new line (max. speed 160 km/h, electrified 25 kV/50 Hz, ETCS Level 1) will directly connect Luxembourg City (from Howald) with Bettembourg, relieving the saturated existing route (CFL Line 60) that currently bundles regional, long-distance and freight traffic toward France. Construction began in 2015; phased commissioning is planned from September 2027, with investment costs put at roughly EUR 414 million as of July 2026.
