Sofia Airport starts Terminal 3 preparatory works

Airport operator SOF Connect and contractor Glavbolgarstroy began preparatory works for the new Terminal 3 on 23 Oct 2026: a transport hub with 14 bus bays, a rebuilt forecourt for Terminal 2 and relocated underground utilities for Terminal 2, the tower and the future Terminal 3. Investment exceeds €7m and the preparatory works are due to finish by the end of March 2027; the terminal building itself is not part of this stage. Update (25 Oct 2026): On 14 May 2026 the airport secured €450m of financing from international capital markets with a 22-year maturity, covering the construction of Terminal 3, due to start in autumn 2026, and the modernisation of existing facilities; the source gives no completion date for Terminal 3 (The Sofia Globe, 14 May 2026).
