BLS cuts about 40 full-time posts by 2030 and closes travel centres

BLS expects to need around 40 fewer full-time positions by the end of 2030, to be shed through natural turnover and internal moves wherever possible. The savings package also includes closing the travel centres in Zollikofen, Münsingen, Ins, Hasle-Rüegsau and Seftigen by the end of 2030, less on-board staff on two lines (only spot checks on the RegioExpress Bern–Langnau–Lucerne line from 2028) and less frequent exterior cleaning of trains. These measures are meant to save about CHF 5 million each in 2027 and 2028; the timetable offer is not affected. (LOK Report, 8 Sep 2026)
