- Event
- On 20 Oct 2026 the European Parliament and the Council reach a political agreement on amendments to the EU rules on organic production
Recognition of the equivalence regimes of 11 non-EU countries extended until 31 Dec 2036; targeted changes to production and certification rules; formal adoption by Parliament and Council still pending
The agreement amends rules on production, labelling and certification as well as trade with non-EU countries: imported organic products from countries with equivalent systems may use the EU organic logo only if they meet additional EU production and control requirements. The Commission expects investment and employment opportunities in the organic sector but gives no figures (European Commission, 20 Oct 2026).
