ÖBB, together with the EU, is rebuilding the Wels terminal, one of Austria's largest freight transhipment sites, into a through terminal by 2027 for about EUR 68 million: loading tracks and the crane runway are being lengthened, a direct connection to the Western Line opens access from both ends, full trains up to 700 m long can be handled, and capacity is to rise by about 40 % without needing extra land. As of the report of 14 November 2025, the new administration and in-gate building (1,400 m², solid timber, 225 kWp photovoltaics) is finished and in use; the expansion belongs to the four-track upgrade of the Western Line between Linz and Wels. The date is a placeholder: the article gives only the year 2027 for the overall expansion. (LOK Report, 14 Nov 2025)
