On 19 May 2026 HŽ Infrastruktura announced that it had selected Afcons Infrastructure as the most economically advantageous bidder for what it calls the largest railway project in Croatian history (Afcons itself reported this on 12 May 2026 as its biggest international order to date): double-tracking and renewal of the existing track on the 83 km between Dugo Selo and Novska. The bid stands at EUR 677,055,750.67 excluding VAT; the contract is to be signed once the decision becomes final, after which construction is planned to take five years and ten months, with EU co-financing. The scope includes rebuilding stations and stops, removing most level crossings, noise barriers and new signalling and power-supply equipment; afterwards 160 km/h will be possible. The date is a placeholder: the article gives only the construction period from contract award, and the end of 2032 is assumed on the basis of a contract signed in 2026. (LOK Report, 12 May 2026 and 19 May 2026) Update (1 Oct 2026): The construction and supervision contracts with Afcons Infrastructure and Eptisa Adria have been signed; the ministry puts the project value at almost €900m, and construction time remains five years and ten months in four sections (LOK Report, Government of the Republic of Croatia).
