- Location
- St. Pölten – Herzogenburg (Tullnerfeld line, Lower Austria) · 🇦🇹 Austria
- Project
- Double-track expansion St. Pölten–Herzogenburg (Tullnerfeld line) with electrification, step-free stations and replacement of level crossings by an underpass
- Investment
- not specified
- Status
- Planned (baseline surveys for the environmental impact assessment have started; construction no earlier than 2031)
For the roughly 8 km section between St. Pölten and Herzogenburg on the Tullnerfeld line, ÖBB is planning a second track including electrification because the line is reaching its capacity limit; trains are then to be able to run at 160 km/h instead of 120. Baseline surveys for the environmental impact assessment are starting now; from 2028 two level crossings in Unterradlberg and Oberradlberg are to be replaced by an underpass first and flood protection built (traffic through the underpass from mid-2029), while the expansion itself starts in 2031 at the earliest and enters service at the end of 2036. The package also includes step-free rebuilds of the stations at Unterradlberg, Viehofen and St. Pölten Traisenpark with a new railway bridge over the L5036; the article gives no investment figure. Announced on 3 August 2026. The date is a placeholder: the article gives only the end of 2036 for commissioning. (LOK Report, 3 Aug 2026)
