On 24 Sep 2026 Bulgaria's finance ministry presents a tax package for 2027 with a windfall profits tax and higher levies on high-powered cars

The package envisages a 33% tax on windfall profits, new levies on high-powered cars, higher child tax relief and a higher VAT registration threshold

The opposition GERB criticises that the government of Prime Minister Rumen Radev broke its promise not to introduce new taxes; former Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova calls the windfall tax a serious blow to business and investors. The package is a proposal and parliamentary approval is pending (BTA, 24 Sep 2026).
