Zurich Altstetten station widens its passenger underpass

SBB widened the main pedestrian underpass at Zurich Altstetten station from 4 to 12.5 meters, added four new elevators for step-free access, and raised several platforms to 55 cm to accommodate growing passenger volumes of about 46,500 boardings/alightings per day. The widened underpass reopened on 5 November 2020 after nearly three years of construction, with remaining finishing work continuing into summer 2021. Total project cost was approximately CHF 64 million.
