EC English ceases operations, about 100 jobs lost in Malta

The language school group EC English, founded in St Julian's in 1991, has ceased global operations after 35 years; in Malta about 100 employees received redundancy notices effective immediately on 14 Sep 2026, with at least statutory severance, and the Maltese companies are heading for liquidation. Thousands of students have to move to other schools; at its peak the group counted 45,000 to 50,000 students a year. The report rests on a single outlet (The Malta Post, 17 Sep 2026).
