ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG electrified and modernised the 12 km Rosental-line section between Klagenfurt and Weizelsdorf for roughly EUR 50 million; after about 1.5 years of construction, electric operation began on 11 December 2022. The new Köttmannsdorf Lambichl stop was built, while Maria Rain, Klagenfurt-Süd and Weizelsdorf (platform extended by 60 m) were adapted. The shift to electric operation saves annual CO2 emissions equivalent to roughly 100 football fields of forest.
